One of our members, Vivian, participated in the International Blind Bowls Association games in South Africa earlier in 2017 and we congratulate her and her director, Marvin, on bringing home a bronze medal. Below is an excerpt from a newsletter put out by the IBBA about her performance.
After a solid start in her singles, Vivian pushed some of the top bowlers in her category all the way making sure they earned their medals. She received several positive comments from her opponents on how much they thought she had improved from the last international tournament. Vivian played very well in the B3 mixed pairs, beating several of the other leads and she was very proud to win a bronze medal. Vivian and Marvin both struggled with gastro for a lot of the tournament, but never took a backward step playing 2 games a day including a few days above 35 degrees. Vivian and Marvin said “ We were proud and honoured to represent Canada at the 2017 IBBA World Championships held in Cape Town, South Africa. We would like to thank IBBA and its organizers for all their hard work in holding the tournament and compliment them on a job well done. We also wish to thank all our supporters for contributing to the success we and the rest of the members of Team Canada had at the Championships. Also, thanks to Lions International for supporting the event. Finally, we enjoyed the tournament and the opportunity to renew friendships and make new ones. We gained valuable experience and welcome the opportunity to build upon the accomplishments achieved at these championships .”
